Hey there, Awesome Customers!

Just a heads up: Our team will be out of the office on Monday, November 11th in observance of Armistice Day, but don’t worry—we'll be back in full swing on Tuesday, November 12th.

In the meantime, you can explore our documentation for Amelia and wpDataTables. You'll find tons of helpful resources, including articles and handy video tutorials on YouTube (Amelia's YouTube Channel and wpDataTables' YouTube Channel), which might just have the answers you need while we’re away.

Thanks a bunch for your understanding and support!

Warm regards,

TMS

Trouble Creating Table from Data Source CSV
Closed

I just purchased the plugin and loved it while using the demo, but I'm having a hard time getting it up and running in my environment. I'm trying to create a table from a linked data source, as I need to make sure I can update the data daily with an updated CSV file. However, each time I go to create the table, the "busy" spin effect just keeps spinning and eventually the screen goes blank.

I then can close the tab, open the admin back up, and I can see the table. HOwever, when I go into the table to view the contents, I get the same problem. A spinning busy effect, no data loads, and then my page goes blank.

Data wise, I have four columns with around 22k rows. I looked around before buying, and there were claims that people were using this with millions of rows of data so I figure my amount is ok.

    Please advise on a solution.

    Thanks!

    Bryan

    Hi Bryan.

    Thank you for your purchase.

People do use our plugin to create tables with millions of rows, but that's only available for MySQL query based tables, not tables that use external sources like XML, Excel, CSV or Google Spreadsheets.

You can take a look at the following notice in our documentation:

This format will work only up to a certain limit (no exact limit, but 3000-5000 cells is a good example). If you have a larger file, the page load time will increase. For large data sets it makes sense to import the data to MySQL, you can use “Create a table by importing data from data source” option to do this.

    _____________________________________________

Also, on the first link provided (Creating MySQL-based tables with server-side processing) you can see another notice:

If the result of MySQL query is quite large (hundreds of thousands, or even millions of rows), and the MySQL queries and tables are not optimized properly (with indexes and proper data types), the tables can still work slow – but wpDataTables isn’t “responsible” for this since the delays are derived from the MySQL engine. Optimize the MySQL tables and queries structure, and wpDataTables will speed up as well!

    _____________________________________________

So, with this in mind, I don't believe 22k rows will ever load with this setup. The file is just too large.

    Best regards.

    Aleksandar -

Thanks for the quick reply! Bummer, but I understand the limitations. Unfortunately, I do not have a very good way to get the data into the MySQL database so the solution is not going to work for us. Is there a way we can request a refund?

    Thanks!

    Hello again Bryan.

You can simply import the CSV file in PHPMyAdmin (see attachment). If all's good, it should just create the table in your database, and then you can generate a query like:

    SELECT
    * FROM table_name

I can understand if that doesn't suit your needs.

    As for the refund:

Please find our refund policy here: http://wpdatatables.com/help/refund-policy/

Due to the digital 'non-returnable' nature of goods we only do refunds when the tool is malfunctioning or not working as described, with prior confirmation that support is unable to resolve the issue. As the revoked license does not make the product non-functional, and because there were lots of abuses, unfortunately we cannot provide the 'return-on-request' refund policy. So we do not refund mistaken purchases, or cases when buyers had their own expectations of features.

To avoid such situations we have a fully-featured 'sandbox' site where one can try plugin's features before purchase, a free version of the plugin which can help to get a better understanding of how the plugin is working, all the plugin's documentation is available to anyone before purchase, and we try to clear up all the limitations of different features, and we always answer all pre-purchase questions clearly and honestly so that potential buyers would have clear understanding of how the plugin works.

In the end, I'm not the one who can authorize the refund, so if you still want to file a request, you can open it at https://codecanyon.net/refund_requests/new but please note that, usually, this is not something that refund can be given.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Best regards.
