group column + hidden column = bug

When the 1st column is set as "group column" and some columns are hidden, there is no "plus" symbol available and thus no way to see the hidden columns. When this group column is moved to be the 2nd, everyhting is fine.

    Hello again PrzemyslawGumulka.

I tried replicating the issue in our local environment, but the collapsing "+" sign was there regardless of the column used for row grouping.

Can You, please, provide me a temporary WP-admin login for your site where this happens, so we could log in and take a look ‘from the inside’ as that’s the most efficient way to see and resolve the issue. We do not interfere with any data or anything else except for the plugin (in case that’s a production version of the site), and of course we do not provide login data to third party. You can write credentials here just check Private Reply so nobody can see them except us.

    Best regards.

    Kind Regards,

Alright, PrzemyslawGumulka, I think I know what happens here.

Collapsing option adds the "+" sign to the first column. It is the default behavior of wpDataTables and unfortunately it can't be changed. We have received requests to show that "+" sign on different columns, and not to have it anchored to the first column, and it is in our "To-do" list, but for now it can't be done.

Like it says in our documentation:

    • Hide on tablets”: Enabling this switch will mean that the cells of this column won’t be visible on tablets; and the corresponding data will be available only after clicking on the “+” button which appears on the first visible column of each row.

The thing is, that responsiveness (or collapsing) does happen, but it happens on a grouped column, since it is in the first position of the table. This is why the "+" isn't there - collapsible columns are hidden inside the first column, and the first column has been transformed into a grouped row.

With these things in mind, the only option here would be to move the "Dolnośląskie" column to the second position (or any other, for that matter) and it will work just fine.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

    Best regards.

This is exactly what I submitted: "When the 1st column is set as "group column" and some columns are hidden, there is no "plus" symbol available and thus no way to see the hidden columns. When this group column is moved to be the 2nd, everyhting is fine.". You replied that you cannot replicate it.

Anyway, this should be at least described in documentation. I don't see a reason to fix it. "+" should be added to the 1st visible column. I don't always may wish to change the order of the columns, because it also changes the order of filtering fields.

    Hello again PrzemyslawGumulka.

I couldn't replicate it on my end because I had a default wdt_ID column that is always in the first position of the table and is always hidden by default. That is why I asked for credentials, so that I can replicate Your tables in our local environment. I overlooked that detail.

It may have not been properly phrased in our documentation, and what You're saying makes perfect sense - if the first column is used for grouping it turns to a row, and the first visible column is the next one. However, wpDataTables still counts the first column as a column, not as a row and that is why the expandable "+" is being hidden behind it.

    Best regards.
