filtering a table then selecting a result from that list to populate other fields in a form.

I have a list or database of different clubs that each have a code associated with them. I would like to filter this list to a few then allow the user to select from this list to populate a field in a form with the associated code for that club.

I was wondering if there is a way that I can select a value from a read only table and use that selection to populate another field. I am not sure this is even possible but I thought I would ask.

I would not like to display all the different codes associated with a given club so I wanted to hide that value until someone clicked on the row which then filled the field later in the form.

    Hello Derek.

I am sorry, but I did not quite understand what it is You're trying to do.

Can You please provide us with some screenshots or even better a screen cast (recording) of what You would like to do, and what the end result should be.

You're mentioning a form, so are You using Gravity of Formidable forms addon?

    Best regards.

    Kind Regards,

I hope this video helps to explain it just a little better.

We are not using Gravity Forms or Formidable forms. We are actually using Ultimate Member. We were hoping that this could be something that we could do with out using the Gravity or Formidable forms. But are aware that this might not be possible.

    Hello again Derek.

Great video, I understood what You'd like to do. However, I am not familiar with this addon, so I cannot say if it is possible to do that. That is exactly why we have Gravity Forms Integration for wpDataTables and Formidable Forms Integration, but even with them not all functionalities are there, and there are still a few things we need to tweak with those addons' teams.

Please provide me a temporary WP-admin login for your site where this happens, so we could log in and take a look ‘from the inside’ as that’s the most efficient way to see and resolve the issue. We do not interfere with any data or anything else except for the plugin (in case that’s a production version of the site), and of course we do not provide login data to third party. You can write credentials here just check Private Reply so nobody can see them except us.

    Best regards.

    Hello again Derek.

From what I saw when I logged in, the Ultimate Member plugin is what it is - meaning it can't look and feel differently with any wpDataTables settings. Maybe if You were to contact that plugins' team to see if there is a way to hide the shortcode until the users click on the team name, You'd be able to achieve what You're looking for. Unfortunately, only Gravity and Formidable forms are integrated to some extent into wpDataTables, and even those two plugins have some small compatibility issues we have to work with.

As for the users being able to view and edit only their own data - You can take a look at our documentation and view the video on that link. Basically, what You need to do is to edit the current tables to allow the users to edit and enter only their own data, and for You to be able to see all that data as an administrator, You'd need to create a new table which would pull the data from the first table. This way, You get the behavior You're describing - You can only see the data that has been entered by the user ID You're currently using to view or edit the table. If You were to log in as a different user, You'd be able to see only that user's entries.

For example, when I open [wpdatatable id=4] I can't see anything - it says table has no data. Simply because I have not made any entries in that table. I do, however, have an option to add a new row which You won't be able to see until You make an admin table where You'd be able to see all the entries. This is default behavior of wpDataTables, and it has been implemented just for that reason - to ensure a user can only see and edit their own data.

    Best regards.

Fantastic! Thank you. I will look at the Ultimate Member plugin some more and even contact the team.

Ok, sounds good. I will try somethings out with having a admin table and see what I can do. But I think I need to clarify what the issue is. I understand the admin table issue. I was hoping to use the foreign table functionality. This allows me to dynamically change options in the tables. But I understand that this may not work. What I mean is when I define the column as a foreign table the full listing table like [wpdatatable id=4] does not allow me to select the different options in the editing or new form. Business Type should have three options to choose from and the options it gives me is zero. Is that making sense? I know that is a bit out of scope of this ticket so if I need to submit another ticket then I will. See the attached video in the next comment. I guess I could configure the table data options using the "Define values list" but then it really isn't dynamic as I would like it to be, but if this is the only way to make this work properly then I will.

    Thank you for your help.

    Derek

    Hello again Derek.

Sorry for the late response. Our company is located in Serbia and our working hours are 10:00 - 17:00 CET business days. Also we've had non-working days during holidays.

It was brought to my attention that the issue You showed me in the video is a known bug and that it will be fixed in the next update.

We managed to find a workaround for You, and it should work for now. We've commented a couple of lines of code (see attachment), and [wpdatatable id=4] should work like the admin table.

Please check and let me know.

    Best regards.
