I would like to upload a new excel file to replace the old one without having to recreate the table. Is this possible. I only made a few small changes to cell content, and not the overall layout of the excel doc. Also, is there a place I could read about the capabilities and limitations of wpDataTables? Thank you.

Yes you can do that with first option in table wizard Creating tables with existing data source. When you made table from your Excel file and when you have to update information you just need to replace file with same name and on same path and data in cell will be updated.
Please note that at the moment you can't add new column or remove existing one or change names in first row of your Excel file, because in database are already saved settings for columns. We are working on this to make it possible in near future. Thank you for understanding.

When you are posting on ticket that are not yours or have questions or issues which are not related to the title of the active ticket can you please open a new one, and we will help you there. In that way, issues and questions which are related to different subjects will be in different tickets so other customers or our support agents can find it easily. Our policy is to have one issue or question per ticket because of the reasons that is described already.
So in response to your first reply, my new updated excel doc has to have the same file name, same first row names, no new columns, and no deleted columns? The only thing that can be changed is the content in each cell, except the first row? Is that correct? Thank you!

Yes, at the moment that is true on already created wpdatatables. If you change the existing file you can make new wpdatatables where it will contain all changes that you made without any issues.
