The Zip PHP extension should be enabled by the server. If not please contact your server administrator or hosting provider and ask them to how to enable it.
Also a note the new 2.2.1 patched version will be released today.
Thanks. I've been in touch with GoDaddy and enabled the php extension (using a file called Archive_Zip). I tried to install the new version of the plugin and it has failed again with the same message as before. Any other ideas what might be wrong?

Sorry I'm being really dumb. I've just got an email from Envato saying an update for wpDataTables plugin is available on my Downloads page. I have just logged on to my Envato account and the downloads page is only showing my original purchase.
Do I download and install that again?
And what happens to my existing tables. I don't want to lose anything!
I'm having the same problem . It is giving me an error of PLCZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT. I have not changed anything since I haven't access the webpage in a while and it is not even online yet. It always updated correctly with no problems without me doing anything more than clicking update on wordpress.
When you have questions or issues which are not related to the title of the active ticket or if you are posting on tickets that is not yours can you please open a new one and we will help you there. In that way, issues and questions which are related to different subjects will be in different tickets so other customers can find it easily. Our policy is to have one issue or question per ticket because of the reasons that is describe already.
Just tried to update plugin to 2.2. and it failed with error message
Update Failed: The package could not be installed. PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature
Tried several times with same result.

Probably because of that there is an issue, one number in the code caused this that we did not see this morning when preparing auto update.
This is fixed so we are waiting for Envato to approve the 2.2.1 version, so stay tuned.
