I received an email from Envato Market on May 17, 2018 notifying me that an update from wpDataTables - Tables and Charts Manager for WordPress was available for me to download.
Typically when I make updates to WordPress plugins, I receive a notification within my WordPress plugin dashboard/control panel and all I have to do is click "update". I checked the control panel and no such update was available.
Of course, I understand that another way to install is to download the zip file to my hard drive and then upload it to my WordPress site. (That's how I did the initial install of wpDataTables.) However, I have dozens of tables on my site and I want to be absolutely sure that they do not get deleted if I upload this new version of wpDataTables to replace the prior version. I assume that I should not delete the current installation before re-installing, as this would likely delete the tables, correct? When I upload the new zip file to WordPress, will it update the current version without deleting my existing tables?
Please advise how to do the update seamlessly without deleting my tables.
Thank you for the reply. Your instructions mention FTP; however, my version of WordPress does not support FTP. Please confirm whether I can do the following:
1) Download zip file (I've already done this.)
2) In the WordPress plugins control panel, click the "Add New" button. Then, click the "Upload Plugin" button. When prompted to select a file to upload, select the zip file named "codecanyon-3958969-wpdatatables-tables-and-charts-manager-for-wordpress".
I have not done step (2) above yet, as I first want to get confirmation that this will work without deleting my tables.
Will the 2-step process that I outlined above work?
If I haven't made myself clear enough, I want to make sure that my existing wpDataTables are not deleted when I do this update. I see that another customer attempting the update and had his tables deleted. thanks again.

HI Warren Catlett,
Thank you for your purchase.
Please take a look at our documentation where you can see how you can successfully update the plugin.
You can follow this guide :
1.) Download zip from this link
2.) Use FTP to open /yourwordpressfolder/wp-content/plugins
3.) Delete existing wpdatatables folder.
4.) Upload previously downloaded wpdatatables folder through FTP to plugins folder (unzip it)
5.) Go to WP-admin panel, open Plugins section.
6.) Deactivate wpDataTables, and then activate it again.
Best regards.
Kind Regards,
Miloš Jovanović

HI Warren Catlett,
If you go to your step 2 then the new database will be created and you will have 2.1 and 2.2 version which is not recommended.
If you can not access your FTP then my suggestion is to wait for auto update which I hope that it will be released next week.
Best regards.

HI Warren Catlett,
If you follow the guide from our documentation you will not lose any of your tables.
The only way to lose the tables that if you delete the plugin from WordPress admin dashboard.
But you will see the notice from documentation
IMPORTANT: Do NOT delete the old version from WP-admin (by clicking “Delete” in the plugins page). If you do, you will lose all your tables!
Best regards.

Dear Bogdan,
Thanks very much for the warning. I will wait for the auto update version available in my WordPress control panel.
