Just to be clear, I have a wpdatatable using placeholders but cannot use wpDataCharts on this table since there is no way to pass the variable to the wpdatatable from wpdatacharts.

The issue is that the chart will not display the values if the table is not on the same page with that chart.
Can you please try to put that table with placeholders and chart created from it on the same page and check follow table filtering for that chart.
