When you have some complex queries our suggestion is to make a VIEW in phpmyadmin or any other database management system and see if the query is returning the right result.
If the results is good you can use that query as an input when creating tables using Add from data source option.
Does mysql table type support temporary tables and joins? I struggled to get this going but solved using a json rendered php calling the mysql query.
