would like to pull live data from another MySQL database rather than an import of that data in a CSV/Excel/JSON file. AND don't want to import that table INTO The WordPress database.
oops - discovered exactly what I needed in the settings tab.
But, now I have another question. Any way to have more than one query to the same data-source? ONe with read only capabilities and the other with both read and write functionality?
Glad that you found the solution for the post below.
If I understand you correctly , you want to make 2 MySQL tables where In first one you can preview/ read only the data and in second one you will be able to read and write.
I guess I'm a little confused, I have already purchased a license for the full version of the plugin "wpDataTables - Tables and Charts Manager for WordPress".
at the link suggested, I only see two plugins: the wpDataTables and Report Builder. Does the Report Builder plugin added the additional functionality to make a second connection to the datasource for Read and Write capabilities?
I know that I can make at least a single connection to the database with wpDataTables - is it possible to make a second connection the same datbase with wpDataTables?
On the public side of the website, I want the data to be Read Only from the database. But, for membership management functions I want both read and write functionality... so they membership roster can be updated via a password protected webage...
thanks again in advance for your clarification, -Rick
Sorry for misunderstanding. Just to clarify: Do you want to have connections to multiple databases or you want to have something that we call separate connection ( attachment) You can find separate connection in the wpdatatables settings page.
yes, I wish to create another 'seaparate' connection to a membership MySQL database that is NOT part of the WordPress databases.
I'd prefer to have a read only version of the data for display on the public side of the website ... and a second connection to that same database that handles write and read for non-public management of the data.
Ok now I understand. Unfortunately there is no way to add another "separate" connection ether it is a part or not a part of the WordPress databases . Our plugin, like you said, have just one connection to the database but adding another one would not be possible even with the code customization of the plugin, for now.
(apologies if this is a duplicate post)

The old data is still live here > http://lakeholden.org/members/search_status.shtml
The new data will be included here http://2017.lakeholden.org/membership/ currently returning results from an Excel file.
thanks in advance, -Rick
