Unfortunately something like that is not possible out of the box but it can be accomplished with small jQuery customization. If you are familiar with jQuery I can give you some tips how it can be done. Otherwise we can offer you our paid customization service.
Yes that example that you have found is from FAQ section of our old wpdatatables https://wpdatatables.com/documentation/ website. This is the way how it can be done but as it says it’s not universal, you have to made some changes so this jQuery code would work for your website and your tables.
Our customization service price is 50$/hour. This kind of customization requires 1-2 hours of work. Depending on details.
We have plans to add this feature in one of the future releases but I can promise you when. Currently we are working on version 2.0 that will have a lot of new features and better UX.
